About

My name is Aarati Kakaraparthy. My first name is quite easy to pronounce once you get a hang of it - Aarati is pronounced like "RT". You got it!

I hail from many places in India. I was born in Rawatbhata, a town in Rajasthan, and growing up I lived in Kudankulam, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Guntur. I'm married to Shantanu Gupta, whom I met during my undergraduate at IIT Madras.

I'm intrigued by how systems are built, and if I'm being poetic, there is a certain art to designing systems. I'm currently pursuing my PhD in database systems at UW Madison, and learning to do research under the guidance of Prof. Jignesh Patel. Through this blog, and hope to appreciate the complexity and diversity of systems for data.

Every now and then, I indulge my creative side through activities like pottery, painting, home decor, baking cakes, and I enjoy singing a lot.
